Reporting an error

Anyone may report an error through the corrections form on the contact page at /contact/. The form is the only channel; the site publishes no email address. Each report is acknowledged by a confirmation page on submission.

Triage and outcomes

Each report is triaged in a window of 10 business days from receipt. Until an editor of record is appointed, reports are acknowledged and logged, and no page is published until an editor is appointed and signs off. The editor of record resolves each report with one of four outcomes: corrected, when the page or datum was wrong and has been changed; clarified, when the fact stands but its wording was open to misreading and has been improved; declined with a stated reason, when the report does not show an error; and duplicate, when the same issue has already been reported.

The public log

Every substantive correction is logged publicly on this page with its date, the page affected, the datums affected, what changed and why. A page that has been corrected shows a dated correction note for a period after the change. Typographical fixes that do not change a fact are recorded in the page's own change log only. Facts are never changed silently.

Corrections to datums

A correction to a fact is made in the datum that holds it, never patched in an article's text alone. The corrected fact is recorded as a new datum version that names the datum it supersedes, and the earlier value remains visible in the datum's history at its permanent address.
