Summary
The site itself sets no cookies and loads no analytics or advertising scripts, and it builds no profile of any visitor. It does not sell personal information.
Server logs
The web server records a standard log line for each request: the address requested, the time, the response status, the visitor's network address and the browser identification string. The logs are used only to keep the site running, to count page requests in aggregate and to detect abuse. They are deleted after 30 days.
Service providers
Two categories of service provider process requests on the publisher's behalf. A content delivery network proxies every request to the site and therefore sees visitors' network addresses. On the corrections form only, a bot-check service runs to stop automated submissions. No other third party receives data from the site.
The corrections form
The corrections and contact form asks for the address of the page concerned, a description of what is wrong, the source that supports the correction and, optionally, a name. It does not ask for an email address or any other contact detail. A hidden field and, where enabled, the bot-check service are used to stop automated submissions. To limit repeated submissions, the visitor's network address is held in memory only for the duration of the rate-limit window and is not stored with the report.
A report is kept until it is resolved. After that, only the public corrections log entry remains, which records what changed and why and holds no personal data. The site sends no mail in response to a submission; the outcome of a report appears in the corrections log.
Contact
