The IEEE Standards Association, IEEE SA, is the body within IEEE that develops consensus standards and supports collaboration on standards-related work. [1] It was formed in 1998 from the former standards activities of IEEE. [2]

History

IEEE itself was formed in 1963 through the merger of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the Institute of Radio Engineers. [3] It gives its address as 445 Hoes Lane in Piscataway, New Jersey. [4]

Role in the field

IEEE SA documents used in electrical testing include IEEE 43-2013, the recommended practice for insulation resistance testing of electric machinery, and IEEE C57.12.00-2021, which sets general requirements for liquid-immersed transformers. [5] [6] [7] [8] The IEEE catalog records the status of each document, listing the first as an inactive-reserved standard and the second as active. [9] [10]
