NETA, the InterNational Electrical Testing Association, is an organization that develops consensus standards for the installation and maintenance of power systems, accredits electrical testing companies and certifies electrical testing technicians. [1] [2] It lists its headquarters in Portage, Michigan. [3]

History

NETA was founded in 1972 and published its first testing specification document in 1973. [1] [4] It became an American National Standards developer in 1996. [5]

Role in the field

NETA publishes ANSI/NETA ATS-2025 for acceptance testing, ANSI/NETA MTS-2023 for maintenance testing and ANSI/NETA ECS-2024 for electrical commissioning, and the 2026 edition of ANSI/NETA ETT sets requirements for electrical test technicians. [6] [7] [8] [9]

Its accreditation program recognizes independent third-party testing firms, and its certification program places technicians at four levels. [10] [11]

A NETA Accredited Company is an independent third-party firm accredited by NETA to provide testing, analysis and maintenance of electrical power systems, while NETA separately certifies the firm's individual technicians.   11. NETA technician certification levels, web page edition. NETA certifies electrical testing technicians in four levels, Level 1 Trainee Technician through Level 4 Certified Senior Technician, and a technician must meet the requirements and pass the examination for each lower level before advancing.
