NETA, the InterNational Electrical Testing Association, is an organization that develops consensus standards for the installation and maintenance of power systems, accredits electrical testing companies and certifies electrical testing technicians. ^[1] ^[2] It lists its headquarters in Portage, Michigan. ^[3]

History

NETA was founded in 1972 and published its first testing specification document in 1973. ^[1] ^[4] It became an American National Standards developer in 1996. ^[5]

Role in the field

NETA publishes ANSI/NETA ATS-2025 for acceptance testing, ANSI/NETA MTS-2023 for maintenance testing and ANSI/NETA ECS-2024 for electrical commissioning, and the 2026 edition of ANSI/NETA ETT sets requirements for electrical test technicians. ^[6] ^[7] ^[8] ^[9]

Its accreditation program recognizes independent third-party testing firms, and its certification program places technicians at four levels. ^[10] ^[11]

NETA certifies electrical testing technicians in four levels, Level 1 Trainee Technician through Level 4 Certified Senior Technician, and a technician must meet the requirements and pass the examination for each lower level before advancing.
